Toenail & Skin
Care

Professional care for thickened nails, calluses, corns, and cracked heels — comfortable, hygienic, and diabetic-safe — for patients across McAllen, Edinburg, Mission, and the Rio Grande Valley.

Routine & Specialised Foot Care

Healthy nails. Comfortable skin. Pain-free steps.

Your feet take you everywhere — but as nails thicken, skin hardens, and small problems build up, every step can become uncomfortable. Regular podiatric care keeps your feet healthy, comfortable, and walking pain-free, especially as you age.

At RGV Foot & Ankle Institute we provide clinical-grade toenail and skin care using sterile, hospital-grade instruments. Whether you need a one-off treatment for a painful corn or ongoing maintenance for thickened nails, we'll have you walking out feeling immediately better.

Our care is gentle, hygienic, and specifically tailored for diabetic patients, seniors, and anyone who deserves better than a beauty pedicure.

Why Choose Us

Clinical care, not cosmetics

Gentle & Pain-Free

Most treatments are completely painless — you'll walk out feeling immediately more comfortable than when you walked in.

Sterile & Hygienic

Every instrument is sterilised to hospital standards before use — never reused between patients without a full sterilisation cycle.

Diabetic-Safe Techniques

Specialist training and protocols for diabetic, neuropathic, and high-risk patients to prevent injury and infection.

Quick Appointments

Most routine care visits are completed in 30 minutes — easy to fit into a lunch break or after work.

How It Works

What to Expect at Your Appointment

01

Initial Assessment

Dr. Galvan reviews your feet, footwear, medical history, and any concerns — looking for issues you may not have noticed yourself.

02

Comfortable Treatment

Thickened nails are reduced, corns and calluses gently debrided, and any cracked heel or skin issues addressed in the same visit.

03

Tailored Advice

We give you specific guidance on moisturisers, footwear, socks, and at-home care that suit your skin and lifestyle.

04

Regular Maintenance

For many patients a 6 to 12 week review keeps feet comfortable year-round — especially for diabetics and active seniors.

FAQ

Common Questions About Toenail & Skin Care

How is this different from a regular pedicure?+

A podiatric toenail and skin care appointment is a clinical treatment — performed by a podiatrist using sterile, hospital-grade instruments. We focus on the health of your nails and skin, not cosmetics, and can safely manage conditions, infection risk, and diabetic feet that a beauty pedicure cannot.

Will the treatment hurt?+

No. Reducing thickened nails, removing corns, and debriding calluses is almost always completely painless. Most patients describe it as relieving — the pressure and discomfort they walked in with is gone by the end of the appointment.

How often should I have my feet professionally cared for?+

It depends on the person. Many of our patients come every 6 to 12 weeks for ongoing nail and skin care. Diabetic patients, older adults, and those with thickened nails or chronic calluses often benefit from regular visits to prevent complications.

I have diabetes. Is professional foot care safe for me?+

Yes — in fact, it's strongly recommended. Diabetic feet need specialised care to reduce the risk of ulceration and infection. Dr. Galvan is trained in diabetic-safe techniques, uses sterile instruments, and will provide a vascular and neurological check at the same visit when appropriate.

Can you remove corns and calluses for good?+

Corns and calluses form in response to pressure — so to keep them from coming back we address the underlying cause too. That may include footwear changes, padding, or custom orthotics to offload the pressure point. Without that, they will recur.

What can I do for cracked heels at home?+

Daily moisturising with a urea-based heel cream, wearing closed-back footwear, and avoiding very hot showers all help. For deep or painful cracks, a professional debridement and dressing accelerates healing — and we'll give you a plan to keep them from returning.

Is this covered by insurance?+

Coverage depends on your plan and the condition being treated. Medically necessary care for diabetic patients and certain skin conditions is typically covered. Our McAllen front desk team will verify your benefits before treatment. HSA and FSA accounts can typically be used.
